Snapshot
Originally built as an instructional design assignment for my Master’s program, this enterprise virtual sales training course was recently re-engineered from the ground up to serve as a showcase of my current visual design standards, advanced Articulate Storyline technical mechanics, and Synthesia AI video production capabilities.
To align with modern B2B buying behaviors - where prospects utilize AI tools for independent research - I completely modernized both the content framework and the visual execution. This portfolio piece demonstrates my ability to blend complex scenario logic, cinematic UI design, and multimedia integration into a scalable, high-impact learning solution.
Challenge: Re-architecting an academic coursework project to reflect contemporary B2B virtual sales realities. Traditional remote sales training often relies on passive video lectures and linear decks, failing to prepare reps for complex, non-linear client discovery calls where buyers expect tailored, expert-level engagement over static feature pitches.
Audience: B2B Virtual Sales Representatives and Account Executives seeking a modern, scalable approach to propsect engagement.
Strategy: Applied Backward Design combined with interactive Scenario-Based Learning in Articulate Storyline and custom Synthesia AI avatar media. Designed instruction and dynamic branching paths (driven by Storyline AI generation, states, layers, and triggers) to provide real-time, low-risk practice in realistic scenarios.
Impact: A fully functional, SCORM-compliant portfolio piece that highlights advanced Storyline architecture, dynamic AI avatar video scripting, and performance-focused instructional design.
Process
The Problem & Concept Needs Analysis
Traditional sales training frequently suffers from passive content delivery - forcing reps to memorize slides rather than practicing real-time conversational maneuvering. Modern virtual selling demands immediate adaptability, active digital listening, and quick tool navigation on camera.
In redesigning this project, I focused on solving three core instructional design challenges, common in virtual sales enablement:
Cognitive Load Management: Preventing rep overload by chunking complex virtual tactics into manageable micro-simulations.
Behavioral Realism: Moving beyond basic multiple-choice quizzes to decision-based branching scenarios where choices carry realistic conversational consequences.
Modern Aesthetic Standards: Eliminating outdated corporate eLearning templates in favor of sleek design.
Instructional Architecture & Design Strategy
The course architecture utilizes a scaffolded learning structure, taking learners from foundational concept mastery to active scenario execution.
To set the stage, I scripted and produced a two-part AI video companion series using Synthesia:
Macro Overview: Features an AI presenter framing macro shifts in B2B buyer behavior alongside high-contrast graphic inserts (to keep learners engaged).
Deep Dive Walkthroughs: Breaks down the granular tactical mechanics of the framework using a storytelling approach.
Using triggers, layers, and multi-state objects in Articulate Storyline, I constructed non-linear prospect scenarios to help learners apply the content:
Strategic Non-Linear Sequencing: Rather than presenting scenario challenges in a predictaqble chronological order (pre-call, call, post-call), I deliberately varied the sequence. This intentional design choice prevents passive lindear progression and requires learners to actively recall and apply concepts out of order, driving deeper cognitive processing and real-time critical thinking.
Immediate, contextual feedback follows every micro-simulation choice, explaining why a specific approach built or damaged client trust. Learners also have the option throughout to return to the video content, if they should need to revisit the topic.
